Thank you for your interest in attending training at S.A.F.E.

We are committed to providing you with quality training in the use of firearms and in personal security. Our instructors are certified by the National Rifle Association (NRA) in multiple disciplines including:

First Steps Pistol:
A 3 hr course to acquaint you with the handgun you already own. This training involves training in safety, operation of your firearm including loading, unloading, cleaning and storage of your pistol. There is a live fire element that will require you to purchase 50-100 rounds of factory ammunition. An NRA certificate is awarded upon satisfactory completion of the course.

Basic Pistol:
An 8 hr course for those that desire more intensive instruction regarding handguns. This training will expose students to a number of different types of handguns and is an excellent class for those considering buying a firearm. There is a live fire component to this training. All firearms and ammunition for this portion of the training will be provided by the instructors. An NRA certificate is awarded upon satisfactory completion of the course.

Rifle and Shotgun:

Home Firearm Safety:
A 4 hr course that teaches the rules of safe gun handling, identifying and unloading different types of firearms, exercises in safe fun handling and types of ammunition, cleaning and storage of firearms. There is no live fire component to this class.

Refuse To Be A Victim:
This 3 hr class is not related to firearms but rather in personal safety and security techniques that can be used for everyday life. There will be demonstrations of personal security devices and suggestions to increase your safety through awareness and simple devices in the home.

Personal Protection in the Home:
This 8 hr class covers basic defensive handgun skills, use of deadly force, strategies for home safety, responding to a violent confrontation and selecting a handgun for self-defense. There is an extensive live fire component requiring a minimum of 100 rounds of factory ammunition. A certificate is awarded upon successful completion. Successful completion of this course allows for the application for a CCW through the Plumas County Sheriffs Office.

General Information

Our instructors are certified by the NRA as Range Safety Officers.

Range rules will be fully explained in the classroom prior to any range activities.

The following NRA Safety Rules are to be practiced at all times.

  1. Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
  2. Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
  3. Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.

Our instructors operate a cold range. That means: No firearm is to be loaded or handled on the range until instructed to do so.

Instructors may inspect your firearm for safety purposes. If the instructor is not satisfied that the firearm is safe to use you will be required to have your gun certified as safe to operate by a licensed gunsmith.

No ammunition is allowed in any classroom.

The student is responsible for obtaining their own basic safety equipment.

  1. Eye protection
  2. Hearing protection. Ear plugs are the minimum. Ear muffs are suggested.

Each student must sign the "RELEASE, WAIVER, INDEMNIFICATION, HOLD HARMLESS, AND ASSUMPTION OF THE RISK AGREEMENT" prior to instruction.

Our goal is to make your experience with S.A.F.E. informational, safe and fun.

You will be given the opportunity to evaluate us at the conclusion of each training class.

We hope you will do so as it is through your input that we can improve our training to better meet your needs.
